I’m trying to establish the development environment on a Windows computer for programming the Hexiwear device. I’m looking at the “Software & Tools Setup for writing the first program” powerpoint slides. The links in steps 1 and 2 don’t take me to the expected places.

By searching the NXP website, I found a Kinetis SDK 1.3.0 Mainline – Windows.exe to download but I’m not sure this is the correct choice.

Also, I’m not at all able to find the NXP KDS Toolchain reference in step two.

Is there a more up to date list of instructions for setting up the development environment?

    Thanks.

I also noticed the messed-up links, I’m not sure which power-point your referring to, but here are the link I’m assuming you want:

The link to Kinetis is: http://www.nxp.com/products/software-and-tools/run-time-software/kinetis-software-and-tools/ides-for-kinetis-mcus/kinetis-design-studio-integrated-development-environment-ide:KDS_IDE – go to the download tab and hit the big gray download button and then select the link for you operating system.

For the toolchain I’m assuming your talking about the pyOCD Debugger, there is a section on the wiki about adding it to Kinetis: http://docs.mikroe.com/Hexiwear_writing_first_program#Step_6_Install_PyOCD_Eclipse_Add-in

The wiki page contains up-to-date instrutions on settings up the development environment: http://docs.mikroe.com/Hexiwear_writing_first_program#Step_6_Install_PyOCD_Eclipse_Add-in (the page was just created on the day you asked this!)

Feel free to reply if you need any more help, I’ve got it setup and compiling programs on my laptop for the Hexiwear so I can probably help if you get stuck 🙂

Thanks for the information. I was able to download the Kinetis SDK 1.3.0 just fine.

Still having problems with Step 2: “Install the NXP KDS Toolchain” When I click on this (even in the Wiki), I get a screen that only says NULL.

Is this something I’m going to need?

There seem to be a number of downloads/installations and I’m not sure how many of them are actually needed to code and install on the Hexiwear.

Kinetis Design Studio IDE v3.2.0 ???
    Kinetis SDK 1.3.0 Mainline ???
    pyOCD debugger ???
    NXP KDS Toolchain ???
Hexiwear hw/sw/documentation package (yes, I think I need this)
    Eclipse updates ???

And I’m not really sure what order things need to be installed in either.

    Thanks.

I see the null page your talking about. I honestly think I didn’t install it, and I’m compiling projects for the Hexiwear just fine so I wonder if it is really necessary.

I wrote a getting-started tutorial a few days ago to show how to set everything up, you can check it out here if you want: https://www.hackster.io/keithmitchell/getting-started-with-hexiwear-in-kde-db4777

    Hi irash
The Getting Started instruction for KDS have been recently updated at: http://docs.mikroe.com/Hexiwear_writing_first_program
They now include each step to install and setup successfully KDS/KSDK, including KSDK and PyOCD plugin for Eclipse as well as open and modify your first project
