The easiest way to expand Hexiwear with NFC is with NFC click. This recently released board carries the versatile near field communications controller from NXP — the PN7120 IC. There are, however, many innovative uses and applications for NFC that are yet to be discovered, many markets that are yet to be tapped. Hexiwear’s small form factor (even with the Docking station) makes it the perfect prototyping tool to explore these new applications.

NFC click has full compliancy with NFC Forum specifications which means that you will be able to use the full potential of NFC and its three distinct operating modes. Here’s a simple demo written in mikroC for Kinetis that shows the basic functionality:

NXP, by the way, is the leading global provider of NFC solutions, covering 80% of the market by some estimates. If you are designing prototypes that are intended to make use of existing NFC infrastructure, an NXP chip is your best bet. Especially when paired with Hexiwear, itself powered by cutting edge NXP technologies.
